Explosive running back Darrell Norman opened the scoring for Lincoln County with a terrific run up the middle, making several men miss and breaking several tackles. The PAT was good to give the Red Devils a 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter.
The first quarter ended after both teams traded punts. Lincoln County 7-0.
Lincoln County had a sustained drive going in the second quarter that was ended
by a fumble as Commerce took over on its own 40 with 7:40 left to play in the
Commerce's option attack started to become effective, and the Tigers took the
ball inside the Lincoln County 10 where they faced fourth and two at the Red
Devil four yardline.
Commerce opted for the field goal, and Dusty Black was true from 22 yards out to
make it 7-3 with 2:24 left in the half.
Norman made his mark before the half ended with a fake reverse that he sprung
free for a big gain to get into field goal range. Virginia Tech Commitment
Brandon Barden made a clutch play for a first down, then two pass interference
calls in the endzone moved the ball to the two yardline.
Commerce made a huge play as they sacked Barden, and with no timeouts, Lincoln
County couldn't get another play off before the half ended.
