The game started out slow as neither team scored a
basket until the 6:14 mark of the first quarter. That's when the Warriors'
LaQuinten Jones took an inbound pass form Jamaal Day, sliced through the lane
and scored on a lay-up for a 2-0 Warrior lead.
Just seconds later, Jones scored again on another drive through the lane and the Warriors jumped to a 4-0 lead.
That pretty much set the tone for the rest of the night. Senior LaQuinten Jones finished with 15 points while connecting on 7-of-9 shots from the field. Jones played fabulous at the point for Wilkinson County. He played hard on defense and did a good job of running the show offensively for the Warriors.
"LaQuinten Jones is probably the best kept secret in Georgia," said Wilkinson County head coach Dr. Aaron Geter. "He's one of the finest point guards that I've ever had the opportunity to coach. If any college can get there hands on him, they've got a steal."
The Red Devils also had trouble with the outside shooting of Senario Hillman and the inside dominance of Martavius Adams.
"They played a straight up Man defense, a tough defense, and we didn't get out and run at all," said Red Devils' guard DeAndre Johnson who was held to just 1 of 9 shooting for 3 points. "We allowed them to get to many fast break points."
Hillman lead all scorers with 24 points while Adams added 21 points and 17 rebounds for the Warriors.
"They're a great team," said Johnson. "I'll give them that, but I don't think we came prepared to play. We allowed them to get to may open shots."
Leading scorers for Randolph-Clay was Dexter Ellington with 16 points while London Alford netted 12 in a loosing effort.
Red Devils head Coach Joe Williams: "When we shot the ball, they got all the rebounds. We were just standing up and they were getting back down the court. We didn't get back on defense. We had a lot of turnovers and they scored off of those. They made their shots all night."
"We may not see another team all year that's this good. They've got some good ball players over there."
Wilkinson County head coach Dr. Aaron Geter: "Anytime you play against a team that coach William coaches, you've got to make sure you take care of the ball, and you've got to control the boards. I think we did a pretty good job of it tonight, especially early."
