Q & A with Peachtree Ridge RB Brandon Davis

Peachtree Ridge, Suwanee (Ga) - Brandon Davis is undoubtedly one the top 2008 running back prospects in the Peach State. Earlier this month, he received his first offer from Virginia Tech. GAVSV.com spoke with Davis about the Hokies, his junior season and his recruiting process.

Peachtree Ridge finished the 2006 season as co-champions after the Lions' 14-14 tie with Roswell in the Class AAAAA state championship game. One of the reasons for the Lions' success was their running game led by 5-9.5, 180-pound Brandon Davis. Davis is a true speedster (4.47) who had over 1200 yards rushing and ten touchdowns as a junior.

Virginia Tech was the first school to give you an official offer. What do you think about the Hokies and your first offer?

"It's extremely exciting. I was told to call my recruiting coach, Torrian Gray last week and the offer was made to me then. The Thursday before the Chick-Fil-A Bowl game, Coach Gray had invited me down to their practice at Georgia Tech. I met Brandon Ore their starting running back. He was giving me some encouragement. He was telling me about what the school was like."

"I also met Coach (Billy) Hite, the running backs coach. He seemed really excited to meet me. He asked me about my size and how my season went. He talked about how they were preparing to play Georgia in the Chick-fil-A Bowl. They have a very good football program."

Are there any other schools you feel might be close to giving you an offer?

"Yes, I do believe Georgia might be close to offering. I'm going down there to visit next Tuesday and I'm thinking they might have an offer. Maybe Florida. They've been recruiting me pretty hard as well."

What are you looking for in a school?

"First, I'm looking for the academic part. A good degree. I want to be stabilized and get a good job when I'm done. I'm looking for a good athletic program. I'd like to find somewhere that I could play, maybe my first year. Coaching Stability is very important. It's good to know that a coach will be there for a good while. A good environment is also important, so I can feel comfortable at the college."

Which schools are you currently hearing from the most?

"Notre Dame, Wake Forest, North Carolina, Florida State, Miami, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, South Carolina and a few others are showing me interest"

I know your just getting started with your recruiting process. When do you plan on making a decision?

"Well, I will wait and see what happens as my senior goes on. My family will be there with me throughout that whole process. I'm not sure if I will wait until signing day or if I will decide early. That's just a family decision we will have to make. We have to do whatever is best for me and we'll make that decision together."

Which schools do you currently have at the top of your list?

"Virginia Tech, Georgia, Florida, Notre Dame, LSU, Wake Forest, Auburn and Clemson."

It was a very good year for Peachtree Ridge. What are your thoughts on winning a part of the 2006 State Championship?

"We had a good season. We started out 2-0, but we took a couple of bumps early in the season. At one point we were 4-3 after losing to North Gwinnett. At that point, our coach told us that we had to start winning out so we could get into the playoffs. So we came together as a team and we just took it one game at a time. Down the road, we won seven straight and we were in the state championship. We finished as co-champions. It was an unbelievable season for us."

What was it like for you to play in the Georgia Dome?

"It was incredible. I never experienced anything like that. We played on Saturday night. On the previous Friday, our coach took us down to the Dome to get acclimated, so we wouldn't be so shell-shocked when we got there. Then on Saturday, when we ran through the tunnel, that Friday really meant nothing. Just being down there, all the people watching, the cameras and everything was really exciting. it was really amazing playing in the Georgia Dome where the Falcons play. It was the greatest."

I last talked to you at the GACA North-South All-Star game in Columbus on December 29th. You were there to watch your brother (Phillip Davis) play for the North team. What did you think about the game?

"It was a great experience, especially for my brother. I was cheering on the North team and just enjoying the game. I was thinking about how much I would love to have the opportunity to play in that game next year as well."
