Massaquoi Discusses His Decision

Lawrenceville, Ga. - Central Gwinnett linebacker Jonathan Massaquoi was one of the top 2007 defensive prospects in the Peach State. Massaquoi recently chatted with about his decision to sign with the Troy Trojans.

Central Gwinnett linebacker Jonathan Massaquoi recently spoke to about his decision to commit to the Men of Troy.

"I chose Troy because they took a risk in me and because they have a very good development program," said Massaquoi. " They won the Bowl game last year and they have their program headed in the right direction.  Their head is on straight about what they want to do. They have a lot of big goals and a lot of big plans. I'm just glad to be a part of it."

"I agreed with what they were telling me and I felt like they would be a good program for me. They would be able to develop my skills, enhance my skills and help me become the very best football player I could become.  That's one of the main reasons I picked them."

Massaquoi said he plans to enroll at Troy in December.  Linebackers Coach Benjy Parker played a big roll in his decision to commit to the Trojans.

"Coach Parker was great," he said. "I really made a connection with him.  He's really a cool guy and I definitely plan on getting to know him better.  I mean all their coaches were good, but Coach Parker just stood out to me."

Massaquoi registered 87 tackles and 9 sacks as a senior. 

"I think I matured a lot this season," Massaquoi said. "I really buckled down and did what I had to do to get to the next level.  It was just a matter of figuring out what was most important to me and working very hard to make it happen."
