Irwin County Ath Brings Versatility

Irwin County running back/linebacker Terry Ashley had a good showing at the Kennedy/CES Invitational combine on Sunday.

Terry Ashley is a sleeper prospect from Ocilla, Ga and he is not getting much attention from recruiters right now. However, that is certain to change after Sunday's performance.

Former Irwin County Head Coach Jute Wilson tried to take advantage of Ashley's versatility by playing him at a number of positions in their Wing T offense including fullback and quarterback.

Ashley ran 162 times for 1,383 yards and 11 touchdowns and made all region 1st team at running back.

"Last year, I had to fill in at a lot of positions," said Ashley. "My primary position on offense was at running back, but Coach Wilson would put me in at quarterback to kind of change things up every now and then.  I had never played quarterback before, so I just did the best I could. I think I did pretty good."

On defense, Ashley was just as valuable, earning Class A first team All-State and All-Tift Area Defensive Player of the Year at linebacker. Overall, he was pleased with his performance at Sunday's combine.

"I think I did good," said Ashley. "I did good on everything except the forty. I was expecting to get lower than what I got.  I really hadn't worked on it like I should have and I know I can do better than a 4.59.  I didn't do as good on it as I wanted to."

He listed Florida State, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Miami and Auburn as his early favorites with the Bulldogs and Gators on top.

Ashley is working very hard to get his GPA over the 3.0 mark and is very close to doing so. He will take the ACT and SAT in a few weeks.
