Derricus Ellis Picks Up SEC Offer

Darlington High's Derricus Ellis is a big athlete that has the athletic ability to play fullback or linebacker on the college level. At 6-foot-2, 235 pounds, Ellis picked up his third offer last night and his first from a SEC school.

"Vanderbilt just offered me last night," said Derricus Ellis. "Coach Bruce Fowler sent me a text message and I called him.  That's when he told me that they had an offer for me.  I don't know to much about Vanderbilt.  I'm just looking forward to getting up there sometime this spring."

Duke and Wake Forest are the other two schools to offer Ellis a scholarship.  Schools like
Clemson, Alabama, Ole Miss, Southern Miss, LSU and Georgia are showing interest in him.

Ellis traveled to Clemson two weeks ago for the Tigers' junior day and came away impressed with what the program had to offer.

"It went great," said Ellis. "I got to meet the coaches.  We toured the facility. I just felt like I fit in real good there. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the campus."

A dominating player on both sides of the ball, Ellis said that most schools are talking defense at the next level.

"Most schools are talking to me about playing on defense," Ellis said. "When I talked to my Coach, he said that Wake Forest wants me to play fullback, Duke wants me to play linebacker and Vandy wants me to play defensive end.  I'll play wherever they need me to play.  It really doesn't matter to me."

As for his favorite, Ellis said it's still way to early for that.
