Q & A with Walton DE Chase Thomas
By John Marchant
Your recruiting process has really picked up in the past month. How many offers do you have now and who are they from?
Which school did your latest offer come from?
"LSU offered me on Monday. My football coach told me to call Coach Brad Peveto. When I talked to Coach Peveto, he told me LSU wanted to offer me."
I understand that you are getting interest at a number of positions including linebacker, defensive end, and tight end. Do you have a preference on where you would like to play at the next level?
"It really doesn't matter. Wherever they need me, I'll play. I'm probably being recruited more on defense than offense, but I don't know where I'm going to end up."
What were your stats last year?
"I had 82 total tackles, 10 sacks and 17 tackles for a loss. I had eight catches for 129 yards on offense. I didn't play a lot on offense last year because we had Bailey Woods."
Bailey Woods signed with Auburn last February. What were some of the things you learned from watching him last year?
"Oh yeah, he taught me a bunch about recruiting. He taught me how to talk to the coaches. He taught me a lot about blocking and stuff like that too. I just learned a lot from watching him. He's a pretty aggressive player and I definitely learned a lot from him on and off the field."
What are your thoughts on the recruiting process? Has it been kind of hectic or do you enjoy it?
"Yeah, It's a whole new experience for me. I never expected this at all and I enjoy every bit of it. You get to meet all the coaches and spend time with them. A couple have been in this week and some are coming next week when we start spring practice. It's really been great so far."
Are there any schools that you haven't received an offer from, but would like to have one?
"I would like to see one from the hometown teams. It would be great to get one from Georgia or Georgia Tech. I grew up a Florida State and Virginia Tech fan. My parents went there, so it would be good to get an offer from them too. But I'm happy with the offers I have right now."
Your mother went to Virginia Tech. In what way has the recent tragedy in Blacksburg, Virginia affected your family?
"It was very tough. My whole family felt bad for those people. It was a big loss. I can't even talk about it without getting emotional."
Have you made a list of your favorite schools yet?
"I'm not going to name a list until I go and visit all of the campuses that I'm interested in. I've got to see what it's like there before I can make a decision on a school. So I really can't talk about it that much."
Do you have a timetable for making your decision?
"I hope to make it before the season starts."
What will be the deciding factor on where you go?
"Just the team chemistry with the coaches and a good college atmosphere at the school. I want to enjoy the town and stuff like that."Player Profile: Chase Thomas
