Lumpkin is the #1 player in Georgia, because he is the total package at running back. He has excellent size at 6-1 and 203 pounds. He is a true home run threat out of the backfield with a true 4.4 forty and spectacular top end speed. Lumpkin has great vision; he attacks the line of scrimmage the way a back of his size should. He can cut on a dime, and he has hands like a wide receiver. He is the best overall running back to come out of the state of Georgia in several years.
He is also the subject of one of the fiercest BorderWars in the south this year. "I went to the Miami and Florida game this weekend," said Lumpkin. "I was kind of surprised that Miami was able to win by that much. I was pretty neutral going in, but I like Miami a little bit more now. I've been trying to narrow down my choices of schools, and I have them narrowed down to 4. I like Georgia, Miami, Auburn, and Texas the best. I haven't set up any official visits yet. I want to try and get to some games, but it's hard during the season, especially when we play some games on Saturday."
When asked what he thought about being the #1 player in Georgia, Lumpkin showed his trademark humility. "Really it's a surprise. It feels good though. There are a lot of good players in the state."
There's no such thing as a can't miss prospect, but when looking at Kregg Lumpkin, it's hard to find any one reason why he would not succeed. He has excellent size, speed, vision, power, balance, and quickness. Most importantly though, he has a tremendous attitude, works hard, and is well respected by his teammates. All of those factors combined, and we have the #1 player in the state of Georgia for the class of 2003.
