Countdown to #1 in GA - Kregg Lumpkin (RB)

For the past 2 weeks, BorderWars has counted down to this spot: the #1 player in the state of Georgia. Kregg Lumpkin is the best prospect in the state of Georgia for the class of 2003.

Kregg Lumpkin is the BorderWars choice for the #1 player in the state of Georgia. He is currently ranked the #2 running back in the country by and is a member of the BorderWars 101 Team. He is a big reason why many are picking Stephenson to give Parkview a run for their money this year in 5A. Lumpkin rushed for 2,088 yards and 25 touchdowns as a junior, and he has helped lead Stephenson to a 2-0 start this season with a 256 yards rushing in his first 2 games. Up next is a showdown with rival Southwest Dekalb on Saturday night at 5:30.

Lumpkin is the #1 player in Georgia, because he is the total package at running back. He has excellent size at 6-1 and 203 pounds. He is a true home run threat out of the backfield with a true 4.4 forty and spectacular top end speed. Lumpkin has great vision; he attacks the line of scrimmage the way a back of his size should. He can cut on a dime, and he has hands like a wide receiver. He is the best overall running back to come out of the state of Georgia in several years.

Lumpkin is a lean 203 pounds

He is also the subject of one of the fiercest BorderWars in the south this year. "I went to the Miami and Florida game this weekend," said Lumpkin. "I was kind of surprised that Miami was able to win by that much. I was pretty neutral going in, but I like Miami a little bit more now. I've been trying to narrow down my choices of schools, and I have them narrowed down to 4. I like Georgia, Miami, Auburn, and Texas the best. I haven't set up any official visits yet. I want to try and get to some games, but it's hard during the season, especially when we play some games on Saturday."

When asked what he thought about being the #1 player in Georgia, Lumpkin showed his trademark humility. "Really it's a surprise. It feels good though. There are a lot of good players in the state."

There's no such thing as a can't miss prospect, but when looking at Kregg Lumpkin, it's hard to find any one reason why he would not succeed. He has excellent size, speed, vision, power, balance, and quickness. Most importantly though, he has a tremendous attitude, works hard, and is well respected by his teammates. All of those factors combined, and we have the #1 player in the state of Georgia for the class of 2003.
