Lowndes County like Valdosta who the Gator's play next week, always have a good football team. Could this be the year Ware beats Lowndes? Friday afternoon on Corridor Z we passed the old bell being transported, the bell that use to ring at Memorial Stadium. Was this a sign of good things to come, we hoped so. The Gator's have been playing inspired football all year but was it good enough to beat Lowndes was soon to be answered.

Ware County received the opening kick off, threw for 5 yards on 1st down and on 2nd down threw in the middle and was intercepted. The Viking's Bradley Johnson picked it off and ran it in for a 35 yard touchdown. The extra point was no good and the Gator's were down quickly 0-6.

On Ware's next possession they moved the ball a little, getting one 1st down by the run but two incomplete passes forced the Gator's to punt. Lowndes offense featuring the "Wing T" took the field for the first time on their own 29. The Gator defense made a statement that Gator fans hoped would set the tone for the game, they stopped Lowndes 3 and out.

Down 0-6 Ware County from their own 14 through the air moved the ball. On a 2nd and 15 Daniels hit Patterson for a touchdown. The extra point was good and with 3:20 left in the 1st quarter the Gator's were up 7-6.

Off a high kick off, Lowndes got the ball on their own 45 and put their Wing T offense to work. They ran the ball effectively finally getting an offensive touchdown. They went for the 2 point conversion and missed. The Gator's trailed by 5, 7-12.

Both Teams traded punts and with a few minutes left in the half, Lowndes started a drive on their own 45 yard line. A long pass and some good runs found the Viking's on the Gator's 17. Great defense by Travis Gordon on 2nd and 3rd down forced a 42 yard field goal try. The field goal was missed and with 12 seconds left, the Gator's took a knee into the half leading 14-12.

As good as the 1st half was played; both teams really turned it on in the 2nd half. Lowndes County's Bradley Johnson at 5'7" 154lb's scored three second half touchdowns and two 2 point conversions. Starting running back for the Gator's, Tommy Jones was injured late in the 1st half and couldn't return. An inspired Gator offense scored twice in the 2nd half with two touchdown receptions by Benson.

The Game came down to Ware's last possession. Trailing 28-34 the Gator's with about 3 minutes left in the game started on their own 36. They made it as far as the Viking's 39 when Lowndes finally stopped the Gator attack with 49 seconds left.

To say the game was one of the best high school football games played would not be an understatement. Both teams gave it all they had. The Gator's again played an inspired game but came up just short of beating one of Georgia's best teams. The Gator's are now 2-1 and next week face another good football team, Valdosta. The game is at Memorial Stadium Friday night at 7:30. Look for another inspired Gator team to play a great game.
