Looking to gain an upper hand in the fight for Region 6-AAAA playoff positioning, Mays High earned a big win over Marist High Friday night.
The Raiders came away with a 23-17 overtime victory that puts them in the No. 2 spot in the region behind front-runner Tucker High.
With the War Eagles (8-1 overall, 8-1 region) leading 17-14, Mays (7-2 overall, 7-2) kicker Anthony Hiffa connected on a 30-yardfield goal to tie the score and send it to overtime.
In the added period, Naeem Thomas pounded it through the line of scrimmage for a one-yard scoring run and Raiders victory.
The two teams scored a combined 28 points in the first quarter.
Starting quarterback Bobby Anthony scored on a one-yard run then found Justin Riocard on a 51-yard scoring pass early in the game.
Kevin Lanier's three-yard run and Chauncey Davis' one-yard scamper were Marist's only touchdowns of the evening.
