Norcross Scores 21 Straight to Avoid Upset

Blue Devils overcome third-quarter deficit to defeat Collins Hill 31-21 and secure a playoff berth.

Behind the powerful running of D.J. Adams and a third-quarter rally, Norcross (8-1 overall, 6-1 Region 7-AAAAA) earned a playoff berth Friday night with a 31-21 victory over Collins Hill (3-6, 3-4).

Adams paved the way for the No. 6 Blue Devils with 209 yards rushing. He started with a bang, breaking off a 79-yard scoring scamper on the game's first play from scrimmage.

But that was the lone highlight for Norcross early, as the Eagle defense stymied the Blue Devil offense the rest of the first half. Collins Hill them took a 14-10 lead in the third quarter after Brad Wood dashed in from two-yards out.

That's when Adams went back to work.

After he achieved a 66-yard run, Norcross five-star wide receiver and Southern Cal commitment Brice Butler grabbed a nine-yard scoring pass to put his team up 17-14.

Nick Sorel, who tossed the go-ahead pass to Butler, then increased the Blue Devils' lead with a one-yard run a few minutes later.

Norcross then scored its 21st points in a row when Tyler Maloof returned a punt 50 yards for the score.

The Blue Devils now find themselves with the opportunity to capture the regional crown. Next week they must face North Gwinnett, with the winner of that showdown earning the championship.
