Swank Out as Pope Football Coach

School announces Monday that the coach's three-year tenure has come to an end.

Pope High school principle Charlotte Stowers announced Monday morning on the school's Web site that head football coach Bob Swank will not be at the helm of the Greyhounds next season.

Swank compiled an 8-22 record in three seasons as coach at Pope. Perhaps sealing his fate is the fact that the Greyhounds steadily declined during his time on the sidelines.

Pope was 4-6 in Swank's first season, 3-7 in his second and then 1-9 this year. The Greyhounds lone victory in 2007 came over Alpharetta.

Swank's removal as head coach doesn't mean that he is done at Pope, however, as we will stay on as a teacher.

"We appreciate Coach Swank's dedication and commitment to Pope football over the last three years, but we feel that now is the right time to make a change that will turn the football program in a new direction," Stowers said. Stowers announced that the search for a new football coach will begin immediately.
