Second-ranked M.L. King entered Friday night's showdown with No. 6 Walton as a favorite to earn a berth in the 5A semifinal game next weekend.
After all, the Lions were the last remaining undefeated team in their class. Instead, M.L. King's season comes to an end with one loss as the Raiders pulled off the significant upset 20-19.
The winning play came by way of a 36-yard field goal by kicker Adam Shreiner, who had made one and missed two kicks prior to his game-winning one.
The victory propels Walton (12-1) into a matchup with North Gwinnett next weekend at the Georgia Dome with the winner headed to the state championship game.
M.L. King led 19-17 with just under 1:20 left in the ballgame. The score would have been 20-17 by Robert Harrison blocked the Lions' extra point thus giving the Raiders a chance to win on a last-minute field goal.
