Bulldogs to Play in 1st 5A Semifinals

For the very first time in school history, North Gwinnett has advanced past the quarterfinals in the Georgia high school football playoffs.

Paced by 145 yards rushing and two touchdown scampers by running back Tyler Jarry, North Gwinnett defeated Newnan 38-35 Friday night to advance to the 5A semifinals.

It marks the first time in school history that a Bulldogs football squad will be one win away from the state title game.

North Gwinnett, known for its offensive prowess this season, got all it could handle from Newnan and quarterback Alan Bonner.

The talented gun slinger passed for 360 yards and two touchdowns - including one scoring pass that cut the Bulldogs' lead to just three late in the fourth quarter.

That was as close as the Cougars would come, however, as North Gwinnett recovered the ensuing onside kick.

In addtion to Jarry's stellar play, quarterback Mikey Tamburo also had a night to remember with three touchdowns.

Kirtly Dovel also added a rushing touchdown for the Bulldogs, who will now face Walton in the Georgia Dome with a trip to the 5A championship game on the line.
