Freshman Preview: Buford's Omar Hunter

As the 2008 college football season draws closer, GAVSV.com will take a look at 2007-08 Georgia high school prospects as they make the transition to their respective colleges. First one: former Buford High star Omar Hunter as he prepares to suit up for the Florida Gators.

Buford High defensive tackle Omar Hunter was rated as the No. 1 prospect overall in the state of Georgia last year for good reason.

The 6-2, 300-pound defender blends a nice mix of athleticism and strength that had college coaches from all over the country recruiting his services. He finished his senior season with 85 tackles, 13 tackles for loss and 6 sacks.

Recruitment: Hunter's recruitment came down to late January as he finally made a decision to attend Florida instead of offers from such programs as Auburn, USC, Clemson and Georgia. Hunter was at one time a Notre Dame commitment.

At Florida: The Gators have recruited the defensive tackle position as well as any other program in the country in recent years. Hunter heads to Gainesville, Fla. with the tall task of competing with 2007 five-star defensive tackle prospects Torrey Davis and John Brown for immediate playing time. The Gators' young defensive tackle depth chart also features former four-star recruit Brandon Antwine.
