Freshman Preview: DeAngelo Tyson

As the 2008 college football season draws closer, will take a look at 2007-08 Georgia high school prospects as they make the transition to their respective colleges. Second on our list: former Statesboro High star and future Georgia Bulldog DeAngelo Tyson.

One of the top defensive tackles in the country as a senior a season ago, former Statesboro High star DeAngelo Tyson was ranked second-best prospect in the state of Georgia for the 2008 class.

The 6-2 1/2, 275-pounder is a machine when it comes to proper technique and form at the defensive tackle spot. He also boasts impressive athleticism and balance for his frame.

Recruitment: Despite being recruited by all of the top programs in the southeast, Tyson's recruitment lacked much drama. That's because the stout defender ended his recruitment before it ever really began when he committed to Georgia in March of 2007. After pledging his services to the Bulldogs, he never wavered in his early decision and signed a Letter of Intent to play at UGA this past February.

At Georgia: Tyson heads to Athens as the only pure defensive tackle in a signing class that was ranked as one of best in the entire country. At UGA, Tyson should have the opportunity to compete for immediate playing time on a depth chart that isn't overly deep in terms of number of players that man the position.
