One of the best run-stuffer's in America as a senior last season, Thomasville High's Brandon Thompson was rated as a four-star prospect according to Scout.com.
The 6-2, 294-pounder, who was the No. 6-ranked defensive tackle in the country, was given this scouting assessment: "Has as big a ceiling as any defensive tackle in the country with his incredible burst off the ball, immediate penetration into the backfield, and excellent awareness for the ball. Very thick DT with a great lower base and low center of gravity giving him good leverage though he does have a strong tendency to stand up in the trenches. Not really a sideline-to-sideline player and has a lot of work to do technically, but a lot to work with."
Recruitment: For a player with this much upside, it was no surprise that the nation's elite programs came calling. But despite heavy interest from in-state programs Georgia and Georgia Tech and a strong push from nearby Florida State, Thompson went with the program that he first fell in love with: Clemson. He committed to the Tigers in late January and signed with them a few weeks later.
At Clemson: Thompson is the only incoming freshman defensive tackle at Clemson this year. When the Thomasville native arrives in South Carolina he should have the opportunity to compete for immediate playing time as the Tigers have only signed four at his position in the last three recruiting classes.
