You don't get much better than Tavarres King on the gridiron in your final year of high school football. The former Habersham Central star capped off his prep career with a Georgia state record 1,632 receiving yards last fall and promptly followed that up by enrolling early at the University of Georgia in January. King's exploits in the classroom and on the field earned him a four-star ranking.
Recruitment: As an early-enrollee, King's recruitment didn't last as long as many of his teammates and opponents. While other prospects were still trying to decide on a college before National Signing Day in February, King was working on his second month of college in Athens. The 6-1, 160-pounder gave UGA an early commitment and then enrolled early and was able to take part in spring practices.
At Georgia: King took a back seat to five-star wide receiver A.J. Green in the 2008 class but don't expect that to happen now that the two are on campus together. King's full semester of college work and football practice gives him a lef up on new competition at wide receiver as Bulldog coaches got an early look at what he can do for their offense this spring. "We knew he had talent, but a lot of times when freshmen come in they tend to be a little hesitant," UGA offensive coordinator Mike Bobo said in an interview with Scout.com in April.. "I don't want to use the word scared, just a little unsure of themselves. He doesn't know everything, but he has not played scared. I think he's got a chance to be a special player for us ... He's got natural stick moves, and he's got a burst. When the ball is in the air, he's got a burst to be able to go get it, a second gear."
