Northside-WR soars in playoff action

With a 49-14 win over Effingham County in the opening round of state, there's no doubt that the Northside Eagles are peaking at just the right time.

Northside has now won six straight games, including the 35-point thrashing the Rebels received Friday night. Combine this late season win streak with Northside's playoff experience from a year ago, and the Eagles are set to soar deep into the postseason.

"Our guys know what's expected from them on Friday nights," says Northside Head Coach Conrad Nix. "They have expectations to live up to and goals to achieve during the playoffs."

That goal ... winning a state championship. Last season, the Eagles came up just short in the title game, losing to Parkview 12-7 on a cold December night in Warner Robins. But if there was a positive in a defeat, it's that this year's squad is full of playoff experience, and they intend to use it to their advantage.

"It feels good to be back in the playoffs," says Northside Senior George Washington. "We got another season, and we know if we lose, we go home, so we're trying our hardest to win every Friday night."

And winning on Friday night is what these Eagles have been doing ever since a 25-15 loss to Jonesboro Oct. 11. Included in their six-game win streak was a huge 30-0 win over cross-town rival Warner Robins on the final Friday night of the regular season. Coach Nix hopes that dominating win sets the tone for the entire postseason.

"I'm very thankful and proud of the way our guys played against Warner Robins," said Nix. "They knew how important that game was for us entering the playoffs, and they understand that we have to keep on playing like that if we're going to have success in the postseason."
