Grangers to face Elbert County Friday

LaGrange, defending Georgia Class AAA champion, took its 25th straight win in the opening round of the state playoffs. Johnson's season ended at 6-5.

The win advances the Grangers to the second round in Georgia High School Association playoffs. The LaGrange team will host Elbert County Friday night.

The Grangers go into the second round of the playoffs with a number one rating with 101.7 on Georgia Varsity Sports Vent's Power Ratings. Elbert County rates a ten with 90.32 points.

LaGrange coach Steve Pardue will enter the fray against Elbert County with a healthy team that knows how to take care of business.

Elbert County skimmed past Towers 21-18 with Chris Watkins running 16 times for 155 yards and two touchdowns to help Elbert County (9-2) hold off visiting Towers (6-4). Piare Thompson, who scored Elbert's other touchdown, had 10 rushes for 97 yards.

Last Friday night, Grangers Skyler Thornton, Adrian Griffin and Blake Mitchell all scored for the Grangers in the first quarter.

Thornton completed 132 yards rushing on 12 carries with two rushing touchdowns. In addition, Thornton caught a touchdown pass from Mitchell, who threw for 13 yards, completing 10-11 passes.
