Time For The 2010 Class To Step Up

This Friday in Atlanta Scout.Com will get a look at what the 2010 class has to offer. Who will be the next player to make a name and get a offer because of it? This combine is LOADED with elite kids from Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia.

I remember leaving the Georgia Dome last year ( after a VERY LONG day with over 250+ kids) with Burke Hayes and thinking to myself that Zach Mettenberger can make all the throws. He had a really good day and made some big time throws.

I asked Scott Kennedy if we could race the kids that ran under 4.4 that day. Out of 250 kids we had 3 do it. Branden Smith outran Rome's Reggie Whatley and Miller Grove's Kenneth Gilstrap.

That 40 yards that Branden Smith ran sparked topics on the message board for months. Some had him at 4.2 and others had him a 4.3 flat. Regardless of what he ran, it was the fastest thing I had ever seen in person.

I hate to even quote American Idol, but Simon Cowell always says " Out of all the people here today, you will be the one I remember."`When there is so many kids on the turf at one time it takes something special to stand out.

Going into this weekend's combine everyone is aware of Mack Brown, Garrison Smith, Storm Johnson and Alec Ogletree and these type of players.

What makes it fun it that we get all these together and rather you are a 5 star or 2 star or no profile at all you will get a equal chance to shine. Whether it is a 40 yard dash or making plays in the one on one's you can make a name for yourself real quickly at a combine like that.

No matter how much film we watch or stories we put out, there will be a sleeper emerge. Here are some names that could become household names over night with strong showings.

Coty Blanchard- QB Cherokee County Ala

Hutson Mason- QB Lassiter

Jonathan Watters- QB Pepperell

Tommy Sanders - LB Crisp County

Blake Gowder- - Ath Union County

Tylon Garrett- Ath Darlington

Telvin Smith- LB Lowndes

Vic Beasley- Ath Adairsville

Rusty's Final Word- It has never been a secret of the talent level of the Peach State. This Friday in Atlanta has the makings of one of the best combines ever held in Georgia. Chad Simmons and a entire Scout team has got together and made sure the "elite" of the "elite" will be there. Be sure to stay tuned all week for previews and complete coverage of this event.
