Calhoun Starts Off With Big Win

There were so many great opening weekend games, it was hard to pick the game of the week. After I left Calhoun on Friday night I was glad I was there to see this great game between two great teams.

I have got to start off by saying this about Calhoun's new turf, "WOW". I think my friend who was attending his first game ever at Calhoun said it best in pregame," this stadium and atmosphere is top notch." Calhoun came away with a 31-28 win.

All the pregame "buzz" around the press box and on the field was about this young man, Da' Rick Rogers. He did not disappoint the sold out and standing room only crowd.Calhoun had 14 points on the board in the 1st quarter and didn't have a first down. Da'Rick had a 65 yd TD catch on the first series and ran a 97 kickoff return after Dalton had tied the score at 7-7. Two series later Da'Rick sent the crowd into a frenzy with 86 yd kickoff return for TD that was called back for a block below the waist.

Nash Nance played well at times and play bad at times. He was the first to admit it after the game. He really managed the game well and is alot better runner than I knew. He almost looked Tebow like on a 20 yd TD run in the 2nd half. He was a little high all night on most of his throws. I think the nerves got to him a little. He will be fine and will put up some monster numbers in the air and with his feet this year.

Watts Dantzler is one of the biggest lineman I have seen in a long time. He is a little stiff at times, but who wouldn't be at 6'7" and 275lbs. Dantzler plays with a nasty streak and I love that in a offensive lineman. Dantzler is getting better and could be the top lineman in this junior class already.

Dalton getting ready for action.

Jalen Fields, a Georgia commit was basically taken out of the game, because of Calhoun's quick timing offense. They ran away from him most of the night. He did show me a great motor on plays away from him.

There was alot of buzz around the "high" profile kids in this game, but maybe the player of the game other than Rogers, could have been Dalton FB Shaquon Moore. This young man ran very well and show great speed in the open field. He is one I am going to look at more as the season goes on.

Rusty's Take On Game- What a call from the Dalton staff on 4th and 3 from Calhoun's 31. Dalton ran the Boise Statue of Liberty play and it was open, but Moore lost his footing coming off the edge. Still what a call in that situation. Calhoun is again the real deal and they are threat to win game 15 this year in the Georgia Dome.
