Sophomore linebacker Chester Sua was arrested Friday afternoon on an outstanding warrant for a hit and run offense that occurred August 3 in Pullman. Sua failed to appear at his September court date, subsequently leading to the warrant for his arrest, said Sargent Dan Dornes of the Pullman Police Department.
According to Dornes, Sua was arrested around noon Friday, was booked at the Whitman County Jail for roughly four hours and was released shortly thereafter.
Sua played in the game Saturday night against UCLA, and nabbed one tackle on the evening.
The Cougs are scheduled to practice Sunday night.
Entering 2012, Sua was thought to be a sure-fire starter in the thin linebacking corps, and he did start the first two games of the season. But he was eventually overtaken by JUCO transfer Justin Sagote, who has held down the starting spot since. Sua has contributed primarily on special teams this season and with the second-team defense, though he has still logged 29 tackles, tied for eighth on the team.
Sua was considered one of the gems of the 2011 recruiting class. He was rated the highest of any in the class, at four stars and as the No. 15 outside linebacker in the country. Sua as a true freshman made an immediate impact last season for the Cougs, playing in all twelve games for Washington State last season, starting four of them and posting 22 tackles.
