Glenwood Gets Another Chance

One of the top quarterfinal games in state-play off action this weekend will be a re-match between Chatham-Glenwood and Sacred-Heart Griffin. Back in August, Sacred-Heart Griffin escaped with a 34-27 win. Dan Rourke is hoping his Titans will be on the other end of the scoreboard this weekend.

Chatham-Glenwood was in the state championship a year ago and the Titans are even better this year. After a 34-27 loss to their opponent this weekend, Sacred-Heart Griffin, the Titans have run off 10 in a row.

"I think our kids have done a great job this year," Coach Rourke said. "They've worked hard in the off-season to get to this point. We were in a position to beat Sacred-Heart Griffin earlier this year so we know what we have to do to win."

This is the yin vs. yang of play-off games. It's Sacred-Heart Griffin's high-powered spread offense vs. Chatham-Glenwood's power running game.

Junior quarterback Miles McAdams, who led the Titans to the state-championship as a sophomore, leads the Titans.

"Miles is the straw the stirs the drink for us," Rourke said. "He's very athletic and intelligent. We let him call his own plays out there. He's very good at reading defenses so he'll audible us out of a bad situation. "

Glenwood has a pair of two-way starters in Ethan Adams and Patrick Bennett. Adams will line up at linebacker and offensive guard while Bennett will line up at guard and defensive tackle.

The Titans power run game is led by tailback Donovyn Hammonds, who has 1,300 yards rushing so far this season.

If Glenwood is to stop Sacred-Heart Griffin's basketball on turf offense, linebacker Eric Kerr will have to be a factor. Kerr returned from an injury he sustained earlier this season.

Nobody puts the ball more in air than SHG does and that means interception opportunities for safety Colin Stokes who leads the Titans in takeaways. This is going to be an epic battle between a couple of great progams.

The winner of this game will play the winner of the Joliet Catholic/Washington game.
