Lenzelle Smith Update

Lenzelle Smith, a junior from Zion, is one of the best guards in the state of Illinois. Scout.com has him ranked as the 16th best point guard in his class and a four-star recruit. He gave IllinoisHSPreps.com a spring update on his game and what he's been working on.

Lenzelle Smith, a top-flight power point guard prospect from Zion, has orally committed to play college basketball for the Ohio State Buckeyes.

"When I get to college, Coach (Thad) Matta told me I would be more of a power point guard, so it's important to me that I work on being tight with the ball, securing it, and getting my teammates involved," Smith stated.

Before he becomes a Buckeye, Smith is aiming to take his game to higher levels.

"Things are going really well for me right now," Smith said. "I'm really trying to focus on my entire game. I just want to get quicker and by that I mean play the passing lanes better and helping out my teammates in the lane so opposing teams don't score on us."

If Smith wants to play in the Big Ten, he knows being a good defender is critical, so defense is another aspect of his game he plans to work on this spring and summer.

"A lot of people don't want to play defense during AAU season but I'm going to," Smith added.

Smith plays his AAU basketball for NLP out of Chicago, and he feels junior guard Alex Rossi of New Trier is having a great spring,

"He's fun to watch once he gets going," Smith said. "He's getting some big time looks from schools like Stanford and California," said Smith.

Lenzelle is a member of the class of 2010 and we'll keep you updated on his progress here at IllinoisHSPreps.com
