Scout.com ranks Myers Leonard, who hails from Robinson, Illinois, as the sixth best center in the class of 2010. Not too many folks have ever heard of Robinson but this big man has put his city on the map. He is the second best player in the state according to Scout.com.
"I've had a really good spring so far," Leonard said. "During the Memorial Day Classic in Atlanta I scored 20 points, had 16 rebounds with 6 blocks."
Leonard plays for the Mac Irvin Fire.
"We have a really good team, but sometimes it's tough because everyone wants to do well and getting enough shots can be tough," Leonard acknowledged. "But our coaches do a great job of balancing things, and its not like guys are selfish. I just run the floor a lot and try to get a lot of put-backs."
Being one of the bigger guys on the court rebounding is a big part of his game and one part he takes very seriously.
Leonard is going to the University of Illinois to play college basketball, and should play a vital role in the success of their program. He also referenced the play of Crandall Head, another future member of the Illini. Head is also a teammate of Leonard's on the Fire, but is currently away from the team.
"He's not been around much," Leonard said. "It would be nice if he was here. He's got so much athletic ability. He's one of the best players in the country, and he's great to play with and makes any team better."
