East Chicago Central receiver Trequan Burnett has taken the record book by storm this season. The four year starter caught 2 key touchdowns as the Cardinals won their first ever Regional title by defeating New Prairie in overtime 38-37.
Burnett was huge on Friday catching five passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns. The two touchdowns give him 26 career scores breaking the school record formerly held by Jamie Stewart. For the season Burnett has 33 receptions for 860 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Burnett is also a standout on the basketball court where he is a four year starter and averaged 10 points per game last season. He also made his initial appearance at the IHSAA Track State Finals finishing 9th in the 200 meter dash.
TreQuan has heard from Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Ball State, Northern Illinois, Purdue and Indiana.
"I hope to hear more from Northern Illinois as my teammate Martayveus Carter is committed to them." says Burnett
Surprisingly Burnett has yet to garner an offer. He hopes getting film out soon will change that.
Burnett looks for his performance on Friday vs New Prairie to get some colleges attention.
He has made visits to Purdue, Northern Illinois and Indiana State.
"I am frustrated that have no offers yet, but hopefully my play as of late will help and as we continue to go deep into the playoffs." says Burnett
The cardinals will travel to Fort Wayne to take on Dwenger in the Class 4A Northern Semi State Championship game.
