SNEAK PEEK:Westfield Shamrocks

Westfield will be making its first state title game appearance since 1992

Westfield has put together a great run to make it to its first state championship game since 1992 (2A). The Shamrocks under former Ben Davis quarterback Jake Gilbert have put together a great run going 12-1. Their only loss being a 3 overtime thriller to 6A power Fishers 48-45. Westfield has taken its game to another level come playoff time. They have dominated the competition. In the Regional they walloped Fort Wayne Snider 36-7 and demolished Concord in the Semi State 35-3.

This week Westfield will play role of "David" as they take on "Goliath" better known as Cathedral. The Irish have won ten state title and are looking for their fourth in a row.

Westfield has a dynamic offense led by Ball State recruit Devin Reece at receiver. The 6-3 Reece has 68 passes for 962 yards and 15 touchdowns. Putting a staggering numbers throwing him the ball is senior quarterback Nick Ferrer. This season Ferrer has completed 181 passes on 276 attempts for 2532 yards and 28 touchdowns. The running game is led by junior running back Elvin Caldwell (1347 yards). The Shamrock defense is led in tackles by linebackers Matt Crupi and Mitch Turley. Junior defense end Jacob Robinson (65 tackles) is a high priority for many D1 schools.

In a game fit for St. Patricks Day it should be dandy in Friday's matinee.
