Jared Thomas becomes 16th commit

Three-star offensive guard Jared Thomas of Indianapolis Cathedral HS became the fourth NU commit in the past week. They're up to 16.

When Adam Lemke-Bell and Andrew Otterman committed, Jared Thomas needed to make his decision—or did he?

Northwestern called him and informed him there was one remaining spot. Thomas waited, NU waited and the three-star offensive guard finally arrived at his decision.

And even after the wait, Thomas found the right fit. The Indianapolis Cathedral HS product announced his commitment to Northwestern over Twitter.

Thomas visited Northwestern in April and told PurpleWildcats.com: "It's highly praised for its academics, but the football gets overshadowed sometimes. It's been a top-25 team multiple times.

He also likes the direction of the program, and truly appreciates the education part. Thomas will consider enrolling in the Medill School of Journalism.

NU won a recruiting battle over schools including Purdue and Boston College. They've been strong this past week, with commits from Thomas, Charlie Fessler, Cameron Green and Jelani Roberts.

The Wildcats now have three offensive linemen and 16 commits for an emerging class of 2015. The rankings are nice now; the quality will be the important factor moving forward. NU might have three or four commits remaining.

Current areas of focus will shift to quarterback and kicker.
