PREVIEW 2015: REITZ PANTHERS

With five starters on offense and six on defense the Reitz faithful on the West Side of Evansville are excited. Coach Andy Hape and the Panthers finished 11-2 last season. They lost to Columbus East in the Regional last season. Coach Hape will have to replace some talented graduates including: RB Malik Higgins, WR Jackson Barnes, D Austin Volkman, LB Tanner Duran, LB Caleb Crowe and DE Trevor Fetscher.

STANDOUT

Quarterback Evan Deig could be the most underrated quarterback in the state. Last season he threw for 32 touchdowns.

BREAKOUT PLAYER

There will be several candidates to replace the production of Malik Higgins. Could it be junior Alex Malchioni.

TOP UNDERCLASSMEN

Linebacker Joey Diekmann busted into the lineup as a freshmen making 74 tackles.

BEST POSITION BATTLE:

There will plenty of competition for inside offensive line spots.

SCOUTING THE: PANTHERS POSITION BY POSITION

QUARTERBACK

Evan Deig completed 134 of 219 passes for 2177 yards and 32 touchdowns. Junior Reid Mahan will again be his understudy.

RUNNING BACK

Look for Alex Malchioni, and Landon Miller to be the top candidates at running back.

RECEIVERS

The Panthers are loaded at receiver. Senior Kerrion Ringo caught 37 passes last season for 639 yards and 7 scores. Senior Tristen Clark added 17 receptions. Look for juniors Alex Higgs and Calvin Brinton to step up.

OFFENSIVE LINE

The line returns senior Joey Head (6-4, 270) and senior Logan Boehm (5-11, 265) at the tackles. Junior Tommy Jarvis and Cole Jarvis are leading contenders to step up.

DEFENSIVE LINE

Senior end Brock Ashworth (81 tackles) is lone starter back up front. Seniors Larry Buchanan and Josh Uhde also return.

LINEBACKERS

Reitz has three standouts back in: Senior Will Brown (110 tackles), senior Aaron Euler (88 tackles) and sophomore Joey Diekmann (74 tackles)

DEFENSIVE BACKS

Senior Isaac Flowers (60 tackles) and junior Elijah Durham (57 tackles) are back as starting cornerbacks.

OUTLOOK:

Once again Reitz will have an explosive offense led by quarterback Evan Deig. The key offensively will be finding a consistent ball carrier. A talented linebacking group leads the Panther defense. Look for another exciting and explosive team on the West Side of Evansville.
