We look at recruiting and some overlooked Ben Davis Giants

Mike Kirschner of Ben Davis

This year it seems you come into the season with Reese Taylor firmly established as your starter at QB. Has that helped?

Having a QB returning is huge - having someone in this position with experience is a big plus as we can expand on what he was able to do last fall in his 7 starts.

I was very impressed with your 7 on 7 performance at the Colts Complex. It seems as if you have great balance with your skill guys?

We have 7 players who are capable to play varsity WR and feel that we have 3 to 4 good running backs. 2 WR's have D1 offers and 1 RB has a D1 offers. On defense we have several starters back and feel we are faster then we have been in the last couple of years in the secondary

Just how good is the MIC going to be this year?

MIC is going to be loaded CG, Carmel and WC will all reload. LC has a great new coach and will be much improve. LN and Pike have some great athletes and are always well coached. NC will continue to improve with some younger players having been playing the last couple of years. The MIC has to be one of the toughest conf. in the U.S. If I am correct the conference has close to 30 or more players with D1 offers.

Who is the most underrated college prospect on your team?

Elijah Ball a 6'0 200lb corner - going to be a junior - speed and size great combination

Who is the one player who no one knows about yet, but will?

Willie Ervin a 6'2 210 rush end/OLB - sprinter speed - very athletic - and very physical

Biggest position battle as we end the summer and head to fall camp?

DB's we have 6 players competing for three spots we will be playing by committee early

Who is one guy on your team who might not be a high level recruit, but is a great football player?

Zion Blow 5'8 165 WR - great speed and hands - started every game last fall - can take you deep and not afraid to catch in traffic.

In what way has recruiting improved since you first started coaching?

With technology it is easier to get our players video in front of the college coaches quicker - we create the videos for our players and distribute them accordingly - also the increase in college camps allows are players to demonstrate their skills in front of coaches.
