Officially, there are 13 verbal commitments as of this writing on July 3rd. With Rod Smith finally calling Ohio State, the number will swell as we move toward the end of July. Last year, Indiana officially saw 44 players sign letters of intent to play top tier football at BCS schools. This number was unprecedented in the history of Indiana high school football. For the last 10 years, Indiana football has been on a major upswing and it still is. Even though I am projecting a smaller number of letters being signed in 2010, it is still a reflection of good things to come.
There are always a lot of fans who wonder why there seems to be a mass exodus every year to football programs outside of the borders of Indiana, there seems to be some balance this year. For all the heat Coach Danny Hope and the Purdue Boilermakers took from some football enthusiasts, they have 2 commitments in the fold from Indiana. Last year the Ball State Cardinals may have been the best college team in Indiana and they certainly are looking to add more Indiana talent in the future.
Indiana University has been aggressive and is still pursuing several Indiana high school football players according to our player interviews and updates. I have projected 33 possible players signing in February and time will tell if I am as good of prognosticator as I think I am. Truthfully, I hope I am way under in the count. So, here is a list of those we know have made "solid" verbal commitments thus far with more coming.
List by Alphabetical Order (13 total)
Over the rest of July, there will be several more who will commit to play football and we will keep up with who and where they are going at Indiana Varsity Scout.
