At 6-foot-2, 270-pounds, Nick Bennett will be helping Army out along the offensive line once he arrives on campus. Bennett has worked hard during the season to improve his skills and it has paid off for him.
"I think that I have gotten better with my technique, specifically with my drive blocking," said Bennett. "This year I have been driving people off the ball down field as opposed to walling them off and washing them down the line," continued.
Bennett has also gotten better at blocking for his quarterback.
"My pass blocking has improved as well because I have been standing people up at the line and stopping their rush there instead of turning them and washing them to the sides," he continued.
Eastern sits at 5-4 with a game against Jeffersontown looming. But Bennett feels good about his team's chances for the playoffs.
"I think our chances are great. If everyone does their jobs and trusts the coaches' keys and adjustments, we will be very successful," he said.
Individually, Bennett's been successful as well.
"No one has pushed me around this year and I almost always make my blocks. We average over 200 yards rushing each game and whenever we need to get yards, my coach always runs behind my side of the line," he continued.
That confidence from his coach and his skill-set is what earned him an offer from Army early on. And Bennett took in a contest between Army and Temple earlier in the year and gave his thoughts on the visit.
"The experience was great. The game day atmosphere on campus was amazing," said Bennett. "The game was very exciting even thought they did not come away with the win," Bennett said.
Bennett also felt good about the coaches and their hospitality.
"I felt like the coaches genuinely cared that I was there. I have been to other schools where I had to fight for the attention of the coaches instead of what happened at Army where all the coaches wanted to talk to me. This visit pretty much confirmed my desire to go there," he finished.
There have been some other schools to inquire about Bennett, but no offers have been tendered. Bennett will make his official to Army in January.
