Ryan Smith played out of position quite a bit this season, but the last few games he settled back in at defensive tackle. But Smith still managed a solid year with 36 tackles, eight for a loss and 3.5 sacks through 10 games.
"I think I have improved each and every game, specifically with endurance and pass rushing," said Smith. "(The season) has gone pretty well. It's hard to go by stats because I played out of position a lot due to the needs of my team," he said.
Smith was named to play in the "Best of the Bluegrass" all-star game and he was nominated for the Tennessee – Kentucky Border Bowl.
Right now he's hearing from Navy, Dartmouth, Columbia, Western Kentucky, Ohio, Marshall, Louisville, Tennessee and LSU. Smith still has a single offer from Navy, but he feels good about picking up some others from Marshall and Western Kentucky as signing day approaches. He's also high on the Volunteers.
"I have a high interest in the Vols," said Smith. "I have always liked Tennessee. They contacted my coach last week and asked for two game films for further evaluation," said Smith.
Smith also got a chance to visit Marshall recently.
"I really liked it. They have great fan support and the coaches are great."
