Tiger becomes a Colonel

It's not often in Hopkinsville that a Hopkinsville Tiger is excited to become a Colonel. But in this case, Deno Montgomery isn't becoming a rival Christian County Colonel. He's becoming an Eastern Kentucky Colonel.

It's not often in Hopkinsville that a Hopkinsville Tiger is excited to become a Colonel. But in this case, Deno Montgomery isn't becoming a rival Christian County Colonel. He's becoming an Eastern Kentucky Colonel.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound athlete will take his game east to Richmond and play in the OVC. Montgomery was a versatile performer for Hopkinsville, playing multiple roles, but the EKU staff has a vision for him.

"As of right now, they want me to redshirt, but they will have me as a cornerback," said Montgomery.

Deno took a visit up to Eastern recently and came away excited about the opportunity. He also has a friend who plays for the Colonels, sophomore receiver Orlandus Harris.

"The visit was amazing. I had a good time," he said. "At my old school (Brainerd High in Chatanooga), I played with (Harris) who plays for Eastern now," he said.

Montgomery feels good about his choice and thinks this is the end of the line.

"I'm very excited about signing with Eastern Kentucky. The recruiting process is over (for me) as far as I know," he finished.

Montgomery rushed for 498 yards and 11 touchdowns as a senior. He also threw for 546 yards and four touchdowns.
