Leon Melvin is one of the best defensive backs in state history, statistically. Melvin had a strong senior season which led Melvin to the next level.

"I'm very excited to know exactly where I'm going," said Melvin. "I'm going to Campbellsville," he said.

Leon Melvin finished the season at 10-4 and a state semi-final defeat in the 4-A playoffs. Melvin contributed to that season in multiple roles, including at running back and defensive back.

"I think my performance was good, even though I wasn't able to break the (interception) record. I tied it. I had eight interceptions (this year)," he said.

Melvin tied the state record with 27 interceptions in his career. This season he also rushed for 308 yards and two touchdowns. The latter parts of his statistics are what he's hoping to focus on at the next level.

"I'm hoping to be more of an offensive person at Campbellsville," he said. "Right now I'm working on getting better and faster for college," he said.

Melvin also had some walk-on offers before settling on Campbellsville.

"I was considering walking-on to Kentucky or Louisville. Eastern Kentucky wanted me to walk-on as well."
