After being often overshadowed by his older teammates last year, Fern Creek's Travon Spencer now has the attention of at least one major college program.

Fern Creek safety Travon Spencer is poised to be one of the state's best football players next season. That is apparent by the first offer that the 6-foot-1, junior received.

"I got an offer from Illinois," Spencer said. "It was very gratifying, but I must stay humble because they can pull it away at anytime," he said.

The Illini are recruiting Spencer to be a safety prospect and Spencer's also hearing from his hometown Louisville Cardinals. Spencer's play this season earned him the attention he's receiving so far.

"I feel my performance this season was good. It could have been better," he said. "I what stood out the most for me was catching interceptions at the right time and keeping my team in the games," Spencer finished.
