Cameron Thomas rushed for 2454 yards and 23 touchdowns last season, one of the top rushing seasons in the state. The 6-foot-1, 173-pound back caught the interest of several schools, but right now three are showing the most interest.
Thomas also is a part of the Kentucky Elite 7-on-7 team that competed in Pittsburgh last weekend. Thomas talked about that experience.
"I did good. I wish we could have went longer. It was a good experience to play against some of the best players around the world," said Thomas. "We did really good. I think we can do better. I think we were nervous here and there, but we got more tournaments to go to and will be prepared from the experience we had in Pittsburgh," he said.
Thomas also got an opportunity to see the Pittsburgh Panthers' practice facilities that they share with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
"I did get to experience the facilities. It was really awesome. I watched the team practice. It seems real intense at Pitt and that's what I like. I like teams that are intense and energetic. They had nice buildings and so is the stadium. It's nothing like seeing Pittsburgh Steelers's stadium and it's a dream come true to play in it," he said.
Thomas has plans this spring to also go see Kentucky's Spring Game and also visit Ball State and Miami. He will also compete in another 7-on-7 tournaments in either Alabama or Michigan.
But that's not all for Thomas. Cameron is also a member of the East Jessamine basketball team and plays some AAU basketball during the summer.
"I'm going to try to do both," said Thomas. "My basketball coach understands that I football is my main sport. So mostly I will focus on football, but then again I'll work on basketball too," he said.
But that's not going to stop Thomas from working to be the best football player he can be.
"Well first of all, to get better, I got to step up and be a leader. This year I'm going to be a senior. I'm going to go to lots of camps this year and do a lot of agility work to get quicker and work on catching the ball better. I also have to work on getting bigger because I want to become a running back," he finished.
