Newport Central Catholic big man Jake Giesler recently took a visit to an Atlantic Sun school and he received a scholarship offer, one that was too good to pass up. Giesler decided to pull the trigger today and commit.

Giesler told me today that he has committed to Jacksonville University to play basketball next year. The 6-7 big man loved what he saw at Jacksonville and had been waiting on an offer to come his way. Although Presbyterian had been coming on strong recently, Jacksonville remained his favorite and the visit only reaffirmed that belief. Giesler was informed of the scholarship offer at lunch before he left on Monday from his visit, and called Coach Warren back today to inform him he was going to accept his scholarship offer.

Giesler is a do it all big man who can bang inside or stretch the defense by shooting from the outside. This was a skill he showed masterfully in the 9th region championship game against Dixie Heights in which he scored 30 points, including a deep, off balanced three at the buzzer to extend the game to a 4th overtime. Giesler will be playing the 4 spot mostly in the beginning at Jacksonville but told me they want to use him as a pick and roll guy because of his shooting ability, which the coaches want to utilize. Giesler will report to Jacksonville this summer and take a summer class that will begin on June 20th. He will also begin working out and playing pickup with the team at that point.

Giesler will be faxing in his letter of intent tonight to Jacksonville and there will be a banquet to honor his signing at Newport Central Catholic at some point before the end of the school year.
