You may not know of one such prospect yet, but lineman Justin Jefferies, of St.X High School, will become a popular name for anyone who follows Kentucky high school football this fall. However, while he may be a new name to you, the 6-foot-5, 280-pound Jefferies is already well known to many college coaches in the region.
Both in-state schools have shown more interest than just the customary letters that start arriving in prospects mailboxes this time of the year.
"I talked with Coach Brooks and Coach Phillips (of UK) when they came by our school a few months ago," explained Jefferies. "One of the coaches from U of L came and watched me work out."
However, at this point and despite their early efforts, Jefferies was quick to mention that he has no early favorites or even a list of schools.
"I'm neutral really," Jefferies said. "It doesn't matter if it's close to home or not. I just need to take my time with it all."
While he rightfully takes his time to enjoy his senior season and evaluate all of his opportunities, the discussion among fans about his best position will likely surface more than once.
With his impressive size and mobility, Jefferies could project along either the offensive or defensive lines.
"I like doing both, but I'd like to play defense," said Jefferies.
However, while the recruiting process is only beginning for Jefferies, he says that he is focused on doing one thing his senior year.
"I want to win another state championship!"
