Outside linebacker Seth Jones of John Curtis Christian had a standout year in 2009, racking up all-district, all-metro, and all-state honors as a junior and he recently picked up his first scholarship offer.

"Tulane offered me," said Jones, "and I went over to the school for a visit.  It's nice.  I liked the facilities and I checked out where they train and practice.

"I got a feel for the campus and how they conduct study hall.  I like the way Tulane gives their players individual attention with academics."

Jones said that he's received some mail from LSU and Tulsa and that he would like to hear from Southern Mississippi.

At 6-foot-1, 223 pounds, Jones runs a 4.7 in the 40-yard dash.  He collected 68 tackles, 11 sacks, intercepted one pass, and blocked four field goals for the 2A runner-up Patriots.

The term "runner-up" doesn't sit too well with Jones, who is accustomed to nothing less than a state championship trophy each year.

"We're working hard with off-season conditioning," said Jones.   "Our mindset is to get better every day.  We've been lifting for two months now and we're going to start our conditioning program - running the levy and other stuff - on Tuesday."

Jones also competes in the shot put and discus for the John Curtis track team.
