Kitchen's Staying Busy

Daren Kitchen of Vandebilt Catholic is a tall junior cornerback who could see his stock rise in the near future.  Kitchen, who already holds offers from Nebraska and Stanford, put on a show at the recent Nike Training Camp in Baton Rouge, drawing high praise for his long arms and overall coverage skills.

"I think I did good at the camp," said Kitchen.  "It was nice and I learned some new things.  I measured in at 6-foot-1 and 1/4 -- and 172 pounds."

Kitchen, who recorded approximately 70 tackles along with four interceptions last year for the 4A Terriers, says that he doesn't have a favorite school just yet.

"Stanford is an up-and-coming team," Kitchen said.  "They're getting better.  Nebraska has a young team and I could see myself there.  I know they have some players from Louisiana such as (safety) P.J. Smith.  I'm planning to visit each school this summer.  I was thinking about committing early, but now I might wait awhile.  I'm also hearing from Texas Tech, Ole Miss, and Oklahoma State.

"I run track right now and workout for football.  I run the 100, 200, the 4 X 100, and I also long jump.  We start spring practice next Monday.  This Friday, I'm going to Alabama to compete in a 7-on-7 contest.  I'm with Team Louisiana.  I'm planning on attending the LSU camp this summer and maybe some other camps as well.

"I'm being recruited as a corner for college.  Last year, I played both corner and safety.  This year, I'm going to be at safety.  I'll probably blitz a lot and they're going to use me at wide receiver and also a little Wildcat.  We should be better than last year when we went to the second round of the playoffs."
