Rhodes is Ready to Explode

Lindzell Rhodes (Hahnville High School) is about as versatile a defender as you will find.

Junior Lindzell Rhodes (Hahnville High School) is about as versatile a defender as you will find.  Last year, the 6-foot-0, 186-pounder lined up at defensive end for the Tigers and he produced well, racking up 55 tackles and five sacks, along with two pass deflections, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.  However, Rhodes is not a defensive lineman by trade.  He simply played defensive end last season because he is too good to keep off the field.

"We had too many defensive backs last year and so we put Lindzell at defensive end," said Hahnville head coach Lou Valdin.  "He's bowed up and he passes the eyeball test, but he's more of a strong safety.  College coaches just need to come see him."

Rhodes has been hitting the combine circuit hard over the past month with some fantastic results.

"I tied for the fastest 40-yard dash at the National Underclassmen Combine in Birmingham last Sunday," said Rhodes.  "I ran a 4.55.  Two weeks ago, I went to the Nike Combine in Fort Worth.  I ran a 4.6, which was laser timed, and I had a 4.36 shuttle and a 32 inch vertical.

"I'm hearing from Louisiana-Lafayette, UAB, Ole Miss, and Alabama.   My favorite schools are Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Alabama.  I like the SEC, because that's where the big boys play.  I'm going to be the starting outside linebacker this year, but I'm also going to play safety in some formations.  If we can replace a couple of linemen, then we can go all the way this year.  We'll have better linebackers and our entire defense is fast.  We can wrap it all up if we have a good offensive line."
