Running back/outside linebacker Riccie Gray is gearing up for his senior season as the top player for Delhi Charter School. As a junior, Gray rushed for 914 yards on 126 carries with eight TDs. In addition, the bruising back (6-foot-1, 220 pounds) caught five passes for 117 yards and another score. On the defensive side of the football, he accounted for 79 tackles with nine sacks and two forced fumbles.
As a result of his successful junior campaign, Gray is expected to become the first student from Delhi Charter to ever sign a college scholarship to play football. LSU, Louisiana Tech, and TCU are among the schools that have shown interest, according to Gray.
"I will just thank God if that happens, and I hope that it works out that way," Gray said. "Tech wanted my highlights and they've been talking to my coach and getting updates on me. I don't have a favorite school, but I'm going to try to narrow things down soon.
"I see myself as a linebacker in college. I like defense better than offense. I have an eye for the ball and I like to hit. There's nothing wrong with offense though. It gets my adrenalin going too. I'll play on both sides of the football this year. On defense, I'll mostly be at defensive end and I'll play some linebacker too. I like linebacker because I have the speed to play outside and get out there on pitches."
