Tulane Offers Lamothe

With spring training underway, college recruiters have fanned out across Louisiana.

With spring training underway, college recruiters have fanned out across the state in search of targets and New Iberia Senior High tight end Kyle Lamothe was one of the fortunate players who picked up that first scholarship offer last week.

"I sent film to Coach (Doug) Lichtenberger (Tulane tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator) and after he looked at it, he came to NISH and watched me practice," said Lamothe.  "I saw the Tulane coaches at practice, but I didn't get a chance to talk to them.  Coach Lichtenberger called tonight and told me that they were offering me.

"It's great, getting that first offer.  It really is.  It's really encouraging and it definitely takes the pressure off.  I don't know all that much about Tulane, but I do know that they had a running back named Matt Forte who is doing well in the NFL."

Lamothe, who says that he will see action at TE/H-Back and free safety this fall, is in the middle of spring training right now.

"Our skill players are looking good and we'll keep working on our offensive line," Lamothe said.  "We just finished the first week of spring practice.  Mississippi State's tight ends coach has been out there.  I was able to say 'hey' to him.  McNeese State's coach also was at practice.  I'd say that Mississippi State and Texas A&M are the schools that are recruiting me the hardest, other than Tulane."

Lamothe's older brother Michael is a linebacker at Texas A&M.
