Allen Park lineman eyes future in MAC

Allen Park goes for a 9-0 perfect regular-season record Friday night and 6-foot-3, 280-pound two-way lineman Lance Latkiewicz will, as always, be counted upon to come up big on both sides of the ball.

It's been a banner season for the offensive right guard and inside defensive tackle for the Jaguars.

"I've improved a great deal from last year," said Latkiewicz. "I was just getting used to the varsity level at that time. I was getting colleges to look at me and I knew I had to pick it up. I've gotten a couple of Division I offers."

Allen Park's success this season hasn't been an overwhelming surprise.

"We got a lot of experience from last year's team that went to the state semifinals," Latkiewicz said.

The Jaguars are focusing on a state title but are trying to take it a game at a time. They end the regular season Friday at home against Taylor Truman.

"We can't look past any opponent," Latkiewicz said. "In playoffs, anything can happen."

Latkiewicz, also a shot put thrower in track, is considering Toledo, Bowling Green, Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan for football. He said he'll make a decision in December.

"I feel comfortable with each school," he said. "My top choices would probably be Toledo and Bowling Green. Toledo has been ranked for quite some time. Ever since I was young I've wanted to play college football. I had a strong junior year After that, I started training, getting ready for the future."

To get ready for the college level, "I want to get my speed up and get ready," Latkiewicz said. "The next level will be obviously be harder and faster."
