A full scouting report breaking down the game of Holland Christian QB Kirk Cousins, a very good player who has been under the recruiting radar for much of the season. Breakdown includes video highlights of his senior season.
: Cousins is an intelligent kid on and off the field (#1 student in class/4.0 GPA). He is a west coast style quarterback in that he does not possess a rocket arm, but is very accurate and is comfortable throwing on the move. He shows good touch on his passes and throws beautiful balls downfield. He has a good sense of timing and throws his underneath routes, particuarly outs and slants in rhythm, rarely giving defenders a chance to break on his passes. When plays break down, Cousins has shown good wherewithal in addition to decent foot speed. He is capable of making some plays downfield, but is more of a scrambler than a pure runner.
Weaknesses: Like most young QBs, Cousins does not do as well when pressured. He tends to throw off his back foot in those situations and will press a bit to make plays. He has only average size and speed.
Cousins is a prospect I really like. He might not have top notch size or arm strength, but he is a kid who is getting better and better with each game and shows a good feel for the passing game. Michigan State, Colorado and Toledo and whichever of those schools gets him will be coming away with a steal.
NOTE: His top target in the video is #1 Elias Kos, a 6'5, 200 lb junior WR who will be a sought after prospect over this next year.
