Holt High School is home to one of the top linemen prospects in the state of Michigan for 2008. Austin Holtz was named to the Lansing State Journal's Dream Team (2nd team) and is looking to have even more success as a senior.
That strong play as a junior coupled with the ability to play inside at guard or stay at his natural position of tackle has colleges looking his way.
"The roller coaster ride has started," reported his father Brian said of Austin's recruitment, "hopefully it will be a smooth landing."
What started the ride was several schools contacting the big junior and during the process, Holtz even notched his first scholarship offer.
"Eastern Michigan made an offer this weekend," Mr. Holtz reported, adding "and Central is showing strong interest. Last week Coach Stripling from Michigan just happened to bump into him at school."
While Holtz is receiving all this attention from bigger programs, there is a smaller school on his radar as well. Brother Tyler is a guard at Grand Valley State and the Lakers are also in the hunt for Austin's services.
Michigan Insider will have video footage and updates on Holtz in the coming weeks.
