Winn has One Offer, Looking for More

Detroit is as usual, stocked with talent this year and one of the top running backs Motown has to offer this year is U of D Jesuit's George Winn. Recently, this talented back received his first scholarship offer and more should be on their way.

This fall will be George Winn's third with the University of Detroit Jesuit's varsity. He has been the key ball carrier for the cubs over the past two seasons, rushing for 712 yards as a sophomore and finishing with 1284 yards and 10 TDs a year ago. He isn't just a good high school back though, the 5'10, 180-lb Winn has the quickness and instincts colleges look for in a back.

"I'm hearing the most from Michigan State, Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan, Iowa, Syracuse and Cincinnati," he reported

He also has had close contact with Miami-Ohio and recently, the Redhawks came through with Winn's first offer. The Redhawks, Michigan State and Cincinnati are currently his top three schools. All this recruiting attention is setting the stage for summer, when he can get out and see schools, something he has already began to do.

"I have visited most of those schools," he said, "I'm going to go to some camps this summer but I haven't decided which ones yet."

Winn also just returned from the Penn State NIKE camp, where he described his performance as "pretty good." A self-styled, downhill, aggressive runner, Winn has been known to line up in multiple spots for the Cubs, something that will continue this season.

"I line up in the slot sometimes, and last year I didn't play any defense, but this year I'm going to play a little defensive back."

But it is as a running back that Winn has the college recruiters taking notice. He self reports a 4.6 in the forty yard dash and if he continues the same improvement he showed between his sophomore and junior year this coming season, he will no doubt be racking up more offers.
