Versatile Anchrum Pulls in First Offer

Detroit Cass Tech has been pumpimg out the talent lately and while it has been Joseph Barksdale or Boubacar Cissoko grabbing most of the headlines, Anthony Anchrum has helped the team by playing multiple positions and was recently given his first scholarship offer.

Play after play Anthony Anchrum was impressive at the recent 7-7 tournament hosted by Eastern Michigan. Whether it was as a wide receiver, quarterback or safety, Anchrum was clearly one of the best players on the field and it was no surprise then that the home town offered him shortly thereafter and other schools have come calling.

"The only schools that have called me other than Eastern was Miami-Ohio, but I get mail from just about every school, most schools want me as a receiver."

But in a pinch, Anchrum can line up at several different spots. Last season, he quarterbacked a few games and started every game at safety. He had 15 receptions, 3 touchdowns and snagged 3 interceptions on defense, all good enough to earn him an honorable mention All-City award, but that still hasn't been enough to get him the college attention he feels he deserves.

"I've been working real hard forever now, but it has been going unnoticed," he confessed, "i really don't get the exposure because we really don't throw the ball that much. But when I get it, I make plays."

With Cass going to more 5-wide looks this season it is possible Anchrum will see more passes go his way. One place he sees a lot of ball is in practice. That is also where he gets to go up against 5-star cornerback Boubacar Cissoko and the pair have waged some serious battles.

"Its helps to go against Boubacar because it builds confidence and makes me work harder while it makes me a lot better. We go at it all the time," Anchrum said and adding, "I always come out on top though!"

MichiganVarsity.com will have more on Anchrum soon, including highlights of him at all of his various positions.
